Hollywood's doing it again. In 1996, it was "The Arrival" and "Independence Day." In 1997, it was "Dante's Peak" and "Volcano." In 1998, "Armageddon" and "Deep Impact." (Not to mention "Thin Red Line" and "Saving Private Ryan," "Antz" and "A Bug's Life"). In 1999, "House on Haunted Hill" and "The Haunting," and now, two more films with similar themes have been released back to back: "End of Days" and "The Omega Code."
Actually, this is a small, independent film, written and constructed by TBN broadcasting. I must admit, it is nice to see a good, clean film about pretty interesting topics. The premise was exciting (and chillingly subtle) and the actors are effective, on an independent-movie scale. Michael York turns in a top-notch performance as the AntiChrist, attempting to use hidden codes from the Bible to take over the world. The hero, Casper Van Dien, is flooded with doubts about faith, and is aided only by two supernatural prophets as he battles the Antichrist, demons, and deadly visions in an attempt to take him out.
Though the first part is total cheese (miserably cliched and poorly acted), once Van Dien gets enrolled as the Antichrist's assistant, the film picks up, and what's left is a nice supernatural horror/thriller.
Though one question remains: The film takes place over a series of years....Why does everyone keep the same haircut?
